Das Eider-Sperrwerk - Luftbild | Es wurde am 20. März 1973 eingeweiht und dient hauptsächlich dem Schutz vor Sturmfluten. Nach der verheerenden Sturmflut von 1962, die auch Tönning traf, wurde beschlossen, anstelle vieler kleiner Deiche ein großes Sperrwerk zu bauen. Dadurch konnte die Außendeichlinie von 60 km auf nur noch 4,8 km verkürzt werden.
